The Mayor
I’m not sure if this has made national news or not, but Bob O’Connor, mayor for the City of Pittsburgh, has been battling brain cancer for the past 2 months. His condition has deteriorated in the past two days and things are now “hour-to-hour” according to the hospital.
Bob O’Connor has been heavily involved in Pittsburgh politics and city council for a number of years. He even used to own a restaurant on Oakland called “Bobby O’s”. I worked there briefly when I was in college, so I’ve met him in the past. He hasn’t been mayor very long, but I really believed he was going to help turn the city around. I technically am not a city resident, so I couldn’t vote for him, but I was rooting for him.
His replacement, along with the rest of city council are prepared (according to the news, anyway) to take over if and when the situation arises. Unfortunately, unless a miracle occurs, I don’t think Bob will be back to doing his job. All I can hope for is that he isn’t suffering and his family and the hospital are able to make him as comfortable as possible.
He is receiving a ton of support from the city, which speaks volumes about his character and good intentions for the residents of Pittsburgh.

That is the worst possible way to go as far as I’m concerned. Very sad….

I met Mr. O’Connor when I was a medic for Pittsburgh. He was an amazing mayor. He’ll be missed.–>
